Friends joined co-ops back in the 1970s to find foods produced with fewer chemicals and by the mid-1990s, the Minneapolis and St. Paul Farmers’ Markets had been in full swing for years. This book is designed to serve as a year-round companion for those who want to explore Minnesota-grown and produced foods. Beginning with the asparagus sprouts in early spring and following throughout the year, you will hear about what the authors Shelley Holl and B.J. Carpenter learned in their travels, see the food they’ve made, photographed and eaten on the family china, get suggestions for monthly menus and present recipes and tips for foods of the season that you’ll return to again and again. They include instructions for drying and freezing along with simple, wholesome ideas and recipes to see you through the northern winters when there is nothing local, fresh, or green.
