Harvest Dinner, Farm tours and Silent auction
Minnesota Food Association and Slow Food Minnesota have come together once again to present an afternoon of fun, learning and great food at MFA’s Big River Farms in Marine on St. Croix. It’s a benefit for immigrant farmers and the work of Minnesota Food Association and Slow Food Minnesota (Twin Cities). Take a Tour of MFA’s “incubator” farms, through the fields, the hoop house, and the specialty gardens. Wear your farm shoes! Our Silent auction includes very special objects and experiences including a dinner cooked in your home by prominent local chefs!
Schedule
2:00 p.m. Hors d'oeuvres, beverages, tours and silent auction
3:30 p.m. Program and dinner
A conversation conducted by MFA’s Director, Glen Hill, with farmers who left their native countries and have begun new lives as organic farmers here in MN. Among them are Karen immigrants who have fled their native land of Burma , through jungles and war, to refugee camps in Thailand. Hear their inspiring stories and how they now contribute to production in the US.
The dinner incorporates foods and produce grown by the farmer-immigrants, as well as favorite dishes of our guest chefs (wine parings are included):
• Jason Blair of Red Stag Supperclub
• Joe Hatch-Surisook of Sen Yai Sen Lek
• John Kraus of Patisserie 46
