Stillwater, Minn. – The Stillwater Business and Professional Women’s Club will host an open house at the Warden’s House Museum in Stillwater on Sunday, April 26, 2009 from Noon to 4:00 p.m.
The open house is free and open to the public!
Join us as we celebrate the start of another season. Stop by the museum to learn more about the history of the Washington County Historical Society and see the new exhibits.
This year’s exhibits feature art of the St. Croix Valley and Washington County community baseball.
With its beauty and tranquility, the St. Croix River Valley has drawn artists to this area for more than a century. The “Art of the St. Croix Valley” exhibit features oil and watercolor paintings, embroidery, handmade lace, and ceramics made by Helen & LeRoy Turner of St. Croix Ceramics Company located near Stillwater.
The St. Croix River Valley was not only home to artists, but was also home to the National Pastime -- Baseball. Major leaguers Kerry Ligtenberg of Cottage Grove, and Glen Perkins of Stillwater, got their start playing for Washington County High School teams. On display: a 1903 uniform from a Forest Lake Base Ball team, Inter-State League Trophy won by the Stillwater club in 1917, scorebooks from Stillwater’s 1955 Suburban League season which includes future Football Hall of Fame coach Harry “Bud” Grant, and photographs of area teams.
No guided tours will be given, but all rooms will be open for viewing. Volunteers and board members will be on hand to answer questions. No admission will be charge for the open house, but donations are appreciated. All proceeds will go toward the operation of the Warden’s House Museum.
