"Cabinology" is the topic of the May meeting of Conversations of the Valley, a public affairs luncheon series sponsored by the St. Croix Valley Community Foundation with financial support from First State Bank and Trust. The featured speaker will be Dale Mulfinger, principal in the firm SALA Architects, Inc., formerly Mulfinger, Susanka & Mahady Architects, Inc. Mulfinger, a native of the St. Croix River Valley, is noted for his interest in regional architecture and for his books on cabins. He will be talking about the history and character of the Midwest cabin and its place in our collective psyche. Mulfinger will share examples of rustic, transformed, traditional, and modern cabins from here and afar and explain the difference between cabin, cottage and camp and how each style influences the places we love to retreat to. Dale Mulfinger writes a monthly column on cabins in the Upper Midwest in Minneapolis/St. Paul Magazine. His current books include The Cabin and The Getaway Home. His next book, Cabinology, will be published in 2008.
