• THE FORECAST FOR WDGY WEEKENDS IS BRIGHT WITH ADDITION OF CHRIS SHAFFER

  • MINNEAPOLIS (July 3, 2023) --- The forecast for WDGY is a new DJ with a strong chance of fun banter and classic tunes! Borgen Broadcasting and WeeGee announce the newest addition to its on-air staff: Chris Shaffer. Best known as WCCO TV’s Chief Meteorologist, Shaffer will be joining WDGY’s weekend on-air staff beginning on Saturday, July 8, 2023.

His show will air Saturday mornings from 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. “Saturdays with Shaffer” will not be a weather show, rather he’ll be spinning the hits of the ‘60s and ‘70s that “the Original Rock N Roll Station” is known for and that he loves. (On Saturdays when WDGY has a live car show broadcast Chris’s show will air Sunday from 3 p.m. – 5 p.m.)

This isn’t Shaffer’s first foray into radio. Early in his career he was on KOOL108, BOB100 (as Blaze Bodean), 104.1 The Point (as Cheeks), Cities 97, K102 (as Jack Wilde and himself) and KTLK.

“Music has always been a huge part of my life. Before I was seen on television, I was heard on the radio,” says Shaffer. “I will continue to forecast highs in the 60s and 70s on WCCO TV each
weeknight. And now I get to play the hits of the ‘60s and ‘70s on WDGY each weekend.”

“We at WDGY continue to engage our listeners by bringing fun and LOCAL talent to our airwaves,” says WDGY General Manager Marsh Walzer. “Chris’ dedication to his roots in Stillwater, his love
for the music we play, and commitment to our values at WDGY make him another great addition.”

“With our locally-focused talented lineup featuring Doctor Don, Sue Falls, Jeff Olsen, Janey Raven, and now Chris Shaffer, we are in a unique position to provide great locally-programmed radio in the Twin Cities,” says Brent Borgen of Borgen Broadcasting.
"Saturdays with Shaffer" will be powered by Tareen Dermatology.

WDGY was founded 100 years ago in 1923 by Dr. George Young. It was one of the first commercial radio stations in the Twin Cities. After several call letter changes, Young settled on WDGY, based on his initials.

Today, WDGY Radio is a rarity; a locally owned and programmed radio station, featuring local on- air talent daily. WDGY streams for free on the WDGY Radio App, wdgyradio.com, and smart speakers with the prompt, “Play WDGY Radio.” Listeners in the Twin Cities and western Wisconsin can enjoy WDGY on the radio at 92.1FM, 103.7FM, 107.1FM-HD2, and 740AM.
