SUMMARY:Minnesota Food Association Community Work Day
DESCRIPTION:Minnesota Food Association Community Work Days are held monthly\, usually on the first Saturday of the month from April through November. These are open to the public and provide an opportunity for interested folks and families to come out and work on an organic vegetable farm for a day\, or half-day. We start at 10 am with a brief orientation to the farm\, then either work as a whole group or in smaller groups on a variety of chores on the farm. Work includes preparing greenhouses and hoophouses\, maintenance of facilities\, planting\, weeding\, harvesting and other general farm work. We work on the whole farm\, including the farm fields of the farmers in the Big River Farms Training Program. We layout a buffet table for lunch and enjoy good conversation and good food. Lunch is potluck style\, so please bring something to share if you can. Anyone interested in getting hands-on experience on a sustainable\, organic vegetable farm should attend. Individuals\, families\, and small groups are welcome. This is a great way to introduce your children to a farm\, to meet farmers\, to enjoy a few hours of outdoors work\, and to enjoy the beautiful surroundings of Wilder Forest. This is ideal for farmers and others who are interested in learning more about Minnesota Food Association and/or interested in joining the program for 2011.
