Join us on Wednesday\, February 13 at the Lowell Inn for "Pluripotent Stem Cells and Human Disease" with guest speaker\, Dr. Meri Firpo\, Assistant Professor at the Stem Cell Institute at the University of Minnesota. Stem cell research is a contentious topic in today's world\, intensified during this election year. Professor Firpo will discuss the various types of stem cells and explain why each is important\, both for science and for medicine. Professor Firpo is a prominent embryonic stem cell scientist with a world-class reputation whose research focuses on finding a cure for diabetes. She is working to create insulin-producing cells for transplant into patients with the disease. The cost of the lunch and program is $17 and should be paid in advance. To make a reservation\, call the St. Croix Valley Community Foundation information and reservation line at 651-430-3830 and then submit a check\, made payable to the St. Croix Valley Community Foundation\, to SCVCF\, PO Box 39\, Hudson\, WI 54016.
